About me
My work explores the balance between safety and risk, comfort and curiosity. Through collage, bold marks, and materials like ash and marble dust, I create spaces that invite you to step into the unknown and discover beauty in the unexpected.
My Story
Born in Bury, UK, in 1965 and raised in Geneva, Switzerland, I studied at Arts University Plymouth and Arts University Bournemouth before beginning my journey as a freelance artist and accessory/graphic designer in 1989. In 1994, I won the Jo Boehler Competition in Switzerland. Since 1998, I’ve made my home in Bremen, where I continue creating and teaching at the Institute for Health Promotion and Educational Psychology.
My Artistic Approach
My work begins with a question: how can we feel safe enough to step into the unknown?
I’m drawn to the edges — the places where comfort meets uncertainty, where something new begins to take shape.
In my process, I move in and out of that space, stepping forward bit by bit, then returning to what feels familiar. Those pauses — the moments of retreat — become as vital as the moments of risk. They give me the grounding to reach further, to touch what hasn’t yet been discovered.
I work with collage, mark-making, and materials like ash and marble dust — remnants of transformation — layering them with symbols of shelter and refuge. Each piece carries both fragility and strength, both the impulse to protect and the desire to open.
For me, true safety isn’t about avoiding the unknown. It’s about learning to trust the movement between holding on and letting go — finding courage in that rhythm.
